Federal Government Allocates $11 Million to Support Small Businesses in 2025

In response to the challenges faced by small businesses, the Federal Government has committed almost $11 million to assist small business owners throughout 2025.

Targeted Financial and Mental Health Support
A total of $10.8 million is being allocated to two key programs: the Small Business Debt Helpline and NewAccess for Small Business Owners. These initiatives are set to run over the next 18 months, providing essential support to small business owners nationwide.

NewAccess for Small Business Owners
The NewAccess program, delivered by Beyond Blue, offers free, confidential mental health coaching for small business owners. Participants can access up to six structured sessions with a coach who has both mental health training and experience in small business. The program is designed to address the unique challenges faced by small business owners, and no GP referral or mental health treatment plan is required.

Small Business Debt Helpline
The Small Business Debt Helpline, operated by Financial Counselling Australia, offers free, independent, and confidential financial support. Small business owners facing financial hardship can reach out for advice on managing debt, no matter the cause of their difficulties.

Government’s Commitment to Small Businesses
Minister for Small Business Julie Collins emphasized the critical role of small businesses in Australia’s economy, stating, “Small businesses are the engine room of Australia’s economy, and employ millions of employees. It’s important they have the support they need, when they need it.”
