With roots going back over a century, the timber and hardware sector has a proud history of representation through what was originally the Timber Merchants Association of Victoria.
This long-standing body formally merged with MGA Independent Businesses Australia in 2017, bringing with it a legacy of strong advocacy, deep industry knowledge, and commitment to independent businesses.

Timber & Hardware Australia:
- represents members on several important timber focused issues, such as the promotion of timber, timber supply, advocating to government and regulatory bodies.
- Our members include wholesalers, timber processors, manufacturers, sawmillers, truss and frame, and harvesting contractors, as well as timber and hardware merchants.

- Frederick O’Connell scholarship
Frederick Richard O’Connell (1894 – 1964) was Executive Director of the Timber Merchants’ Association (Vic) in the 1950’s.
Frederick left a bequest to be dedicated to children of Timber & Hardware Australia members, or children of their employees.
The scholarship was established to promote industrial harmony in Australia and to improve relationships between employers and employees within the timber industry.
