MGA and IGA Leaders Unite to Combat Homelessness through Vinnies CEO Sleepout

On Thursday, 19 June 2025, Mikaela McKenzie, Director of Member Engagement at MGA Independent Businesses Australia, will join the Vinnies CEO Sleepout as part of Team IGA VIC 2025. This initiative brings together a dedicated group of independent retailers, Metcash staff, and suppliers, all committed to raising awareness and funds to combat homelessness in Australia.

Team IGA VIC 2025 comprises of MGA members, including Nathan Lovell from Daly’s IGA Supermarket, Andrew Maud of IGA Barwon Heads, Lincoln Wymer of the Reddrop Group and MGA Board Member, Helen Maxwell from Ritchies, and Ryan Taylor of Champions IGA. Together with Metcash representatives and suppliers, the team has set an ambitious fundraising goal of $30,000 and is currently just $7,000 shy of reaching it.

The Vinnies CEO Sleepout is a one-night event held on one of the longest and coldest nights of the year. Hundreds of CEOs, business owners, and community leaders sleep outdoors to support Australians experiencing homelessness and those at risk. Funds raised provide essential services, including emergency food and accommodation, education, counselling, and employment services, as well as health and social support to address the root causes of homelessness .

In Victoria, the need is pressing. Many individuals face long waits for housing, with half of renters fearing homelessness and some going hungry to keep a roof over their heads. Vinnies Victoria is calling on leaders and supporters to stand together and declare ‘enough is enough’.

Team IGA VIC 2025 are passionate about supporting the communities they serve. Their participation in the CEO Sleepout underscores the commitment of independent retailers to social responsibility and community engagement.

To support Mikaela and the team in their mission to end homelessness, please consider making a donation via her fundraising page: https://www.ceosleepout.org.au/fundraisers/mikaelamckenzie

Every contribution brings us one step closer to ensuring that all Australians have a safe place to call home.
