Retail World Magazine, a leading publication for Australia’s FMCG and retail industry, reported that the Victorian Government has introduced new laws to protect retail workers and businesses, targeting assaults on staff and vehicle ram raids.
These reforms include stronger penalties for attacks on retail employees and measures to curb ram raids, which have caused significant property damage and financial loss.
Industry groups such as the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) and National Retail Association (NRA) praised the bipartisan approach, calling retail crime a community safety issue. The legislation also introduces Workplace Protection Orders (WPOs), enabling courts to restrict high-risk offenders from entering retail premises—a measure retailers have long advocated for.
