WorkSafe Inspections – Are You Prepared?

In recent months, we’ve seen an increase in member enquiries relating to WorkSafe inspections in Victoria, reflecting a noticeable uplift in inspection activity across the sector.

In response, we’ve compiled practical guidance and tools to help your store meet your workplace health and safety obligations, maintain a safe environment, and support your team effectively.

This update provides key steps, recommended policies, and tools to ensure your store is prepared for inspection and operating in line with current legislation.

Prepare your store for inspection

We recommend you take the following steps to ensure your store is prepared for a WorkSafe inspection:

  1. Review your store’s safety compliance using the WorkSafe Health & Safety Self-Assessment Checklist
  2. Ensure all workplace policies are up to date and properly implemented
  3. Confirm staff have been trained and understand key safety procedures
  4. Display appropriate signage, particularly relating to customer aggression

Policy Implementation Guidelines

Giving your team a policy is only the beginning. To make it truly work in your store:

  • Make sure your team understands it – Share the key points in plain, easy-to-understand language so your team knows exactly what’s expected.
  • Encourage questions – Give your team the chance to ask and get answers.
  • Confirm understanding – Have employees sign the policy to confirm they understand it.
